5.4.7 External Relations

External Relations supports the University’s mission by fundraising for pan-University strategic priorities, promoting the University’s position in Richmond, and providing resources and expertise to the University’s external relations community.

In consultation with UVA’s leadership, External Relations partners with University schools, units, and volunteers who are committed to UVA’s success to:

• Develop a roadmap and operationalize initiatives in support of the University’s strategic plan.
• Direct fundraising efforts and define best practices for staff that meet the highest ethical and professional standards.
• Establish relationships with alumni, parents, students, and friends and strengthen their connections with the University.
• Advance the University’s legislative, operating, and capital priorities in Richmond and enhance the University’s contributions across the Commonwealth.

External Relations encompasses a broad range of pan-University initiatives including philanthropy, engagement, principal relationship development, corporate and foundation relations, and state government relations; and provides operational and administrative services in support of these initiatives.
